National Endowment for the Arts Presents Great American Voices at MCAS Miramar, November 16

Washington, D.C. -- The National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the United States Marine Corps, presents a performance of opera and musical theater for military personnel at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar in San Diego, California on Thursday, November 16. The performance is part of the NEA's Great American Voices Military Base Tour: Unforgettable Melodies from Opera & Broadway, which celebrates the best of American arts by bringing professional performances of opera and musical theater to 39 military bases nationwide.
The evening concert will feature members of San Diego Opera. The program, titled "OperaFest" will feature songs from popular operas such as Bizet's Carmen, and highlights from classic American musicals such as West Side Story. Earlier that day, San Diego Opera will present an education performance for youth and parents at MCAS Miramar.
In addition to the military base tour, the NEA also has produced a compact disc with opera and Broadway excerpts and commentary, to be distributed to audience members and teachers at participating schools. San Diego Opera performs for MCAS Miramar
Members of San Diego Opera will perform Great American Voices on Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bob Hope Theatre at MCAS Miramar. The performance is free and open to military affiliated individuals and their families.
