Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
To revitalize the historically African-American Old South Baton Rouge neighborhood, the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and Center for Planning Excellence will use Our Town funding to create a cultural district plan that includes a feasibility study, implementation plan, and development of a replicable community model for arts-driven revitalization in other Louisiana communities. The project builds upon a recently completed redevelopment strategy for the economically disadvantaged neighborhood, as well as the recent purchase of the long-abandoned historic Lincoln Theater for renovation as a museum and performance space. Other partners include the East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority, EBRP City-Parish Planning Commission, EBRP Mayor-President and Metro Council, Old South Baton Rouge Civic Association, Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame, and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. The neighborhood has a population of 11,828 residents.
