National Council on the Arts Members

Claire McCaskill (U.S. Senate, D-MO)

Claire McCaskill was appointed to serve on the National Council on the Arts for the 111th Congress by Majority Leader Harry Reid.  This marks Senator McCaskill’s first appointment to the National Council on the Arts.  In the 111th Congress, Senator McCaskill serves on four committees - armed services, commerce, homeland security and governmental affairs, and aging.  As the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Missouri, Senator McCaskill has vowed to bring accountability back to Washington.  Prior to being elected to the Senate, she had a standout career in local and state government as a member of the state legislature, as the first female prosecutor in Jackson County, Missouri, and as the state’s auditor.  Senator McCaskill is a fourth-generation Missourian born and raised in the state.  She earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  She now makes her home in St. Louis.
